Tackling Stress in Schools
A one-day programme for Headteachers, Senior Management
and Governors
Course Objectives
- Provide a clear understanding of the legal requirements
for managing stress in schools.
- Define “stress” and the difference
between pressure and stress.
- Explain how the negative effects of stress can
affect the performance of staff and pupils.
- Provide an understanding
of the causes of stress so that appropriate action can
be considered to minimise or reduce
the results.
- Help managers understand their own behaviour
and assess whether it could be a cause of stress for other
people.
- Enable managers to recognise the symptoms of stress
in others so that early intervention can take place to
prevent
the build up of pressure resulting in stress.
- Provide
practical instruction in the risk management approach and
the development of action plans in accordance with
Health & Safety Executive guidelines.
Developing Well-Being & Performance at Work
A one-day programme for teachers
Course Objectives
The overall aim will be to provide teachers with the skills
and knowledge to recognise the effects of stress in themselves
and to have a wide variety of practical techniques that they
can use to eliminate, reduce and cope with stress.
In particular, the programme will:
- Provide a clear understanding of the meaning of
stress and an awareness of the difference between pressure
and stress.
- Provide an understanding of the causes of stress
so that individuals can assess the impact of stress on
both themselves and their colleagues.
- Enable individuals to recognise the signs and
symptoms of stress in themselves and others.
- Enable staff to break the vicious cycle of stressful
thinking and to recognise the vital link between our
beliefs, perceptions and experiences of stress.
- Help individuals to adopt an attitude of personal
responsibility for their own stress management and health
and well-being.
- Provide practical strategies to help with preventing
and managing stress in both the short term and the long
term; including ways to avoid stress, reframing situations,
thinking
positively, responding proactively, managing change,
and learning how to relax and recharge, anywhere, any time.
Managing Exam Pressure For Peak Performance
A Workshop/Seminar Programme For School Pupils and Students
Objectives
To equip pupils with the key knowledge and skills to be able
to manage the pressure of exams to achieve peak performance.
In particular, the programme will:
- Provide a clear understanding of the meaning
of stress and an awareness of the difference between pressure
and stress.
- Provide an understanding of the causes of stress
and how stress affects performance.
- Enable students to recognise the signs and symptoms
of stress in themselves and others.
- Provide practical strategies to help with preventing
and managing stress; including ways to avoid and reduce
stress, the importance of thinking and focusing positively,
a variety
of ways to relax and recharge.
- Demonstrate how to use goal setting, positive
affirmations, and visualisation techniques to improve performance.
